Middle Park Fair horseshoe tournament a success

To the Editor: One of the events during the Middle Park Fair and Rodeo is a horseshoe pitching tournament. This year there were over 20 participants in the double-elimination bracket format. The teams in this annual tournament are selected by a blind draw and there were enough participants to run two rounds with eight teams in each round. The participants contested for a prize fund which was donated by Middle Park Fair Board, Middle Park Meat Company, Rocky Mountain Bar & Grill, Shaw Construction, Town & Country Insurance and the Quarter Circle Saloon. The winners of the first round were Steve Hunter and Pep Pierman, Larry Hunter and Howie Retzer finished in second place and the team of Cheryl Howard and Scott Stapleton was awarded third place. In the second round, Jay Howard teamed with Larry Hunter to win the top prize while Scott Stapleton and Glenn Farris finished second and Ryan Curran and Kent Grewell earned the third place prize. We would like to thank the sponsors for their generous support. The tournament is enjoyable and the turnout this year was great. More participants are always encouraged. Since it is a blind draw format, participants don’t have to worry about finding a partner. Start practicing your pitching and make plans to join us in the tournament at next year’s fair.
