Missing Garfield County hunter found alive Monday

GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colorado – A 65-year-old hunter from the Silt-New Castle area, missing since Saturday, was found alive by search and rescue teams on Monday afternoon, according to a bulletin issued at 3 p.m. by the Garfield County Sheriff’s Office.The sheriff’s office did not indicate if the man was injured, or release the name of the man or his hunting companions, and no further information was available as of 5 p.m.The group reportedly was hunting in an area off the Buford Road (County Road 245), south of Meadow Lake along the south end of Clark Ridge.The search for the missing hunter begin on Sunday morning.The man’s companions reported that he left the camp on his own around 5 a.m. on Saturday and had not been seen since. The man was planning to hunt below the rim of Clark Ridge, which is between the Clark Creek drainage and the Deep Creek Canyon region.Searchers from Garfield County Search & Rescue and the Sheriff’s Department, as well as Colorado Parks and Wildlife and the Colorado Army National Guard, began searching on the ground and by air in a National Guard Blackhawk helicopter.The search was called off when night fell on Sunday, and was resumed at 8 a.m. on Monday, the sheriff’s office reported.By Monday, in addition to the agencies mentioned above, the teams expanded to include rescuers from Eagle County, Vail, Aspen, Gunnison and Rio Blanco County.
