Nonprofit of the Week: Grand Futures Prevention Coalition
February 14, 2014
Grand Futures Prevention Coalition started in 1990 in the 14th Judicial District of Colorado, which encompasses Grand, Routt and Moffat counties. Its mission is to "create and support healthy positive lifestyle choices as alternatives to substance abuse in our youth and our community." Grand Futures is the only dedicated source of substance abuse prevention in its service area. The organization's goals are to educate its communities on alcohol, tobacco and other drug issues, to empower youth to make positive choices, and to promote and support alcohol, tobacco and drug policies. It does this through teen councils and a Tobacco Task Force, alcohol server training, alcohol compliance checks, youth/parent surveys — including facilitation of the Healthy Kids Colorado Survey in school districts — Grand Futures events, and resources directed to youth, parents and community members. Substance Abuse Prevention programs provide a nearly $10 return for every $1 invested. Donate at http://www.grandfutures.org under "Support."
