Nonprofit of the week: Independent Sports Club

The Independent Sports Club of Grand County is an organization that was founded in 1981 by a group of concerned citizens to raise money for a child in need of a wheelchair. The Club has now evolved with a mission to provide the youth of Grand County with opportunities to promote, support and sponsor their educational, athletic and social experiences. In order to complete its mission, the Club holds fundraising events each year with all proceeds dedicated toward scholarships and grants. To date in 2014, the Club has given awards to the Middle Park High School Post Prom Committee, the Middle Park Volleyball Club and a student who has been invited to attend a Global Youth Leaders Conference in Washington, D.C. Since its inception, the Club has awarded over $343,000 to the youth of Grand County.

On July 21 the Independent Sports Club will host Grand Lake’s 31st State Chili Cookoff. For information regarding the Cookoff, contact Mindy Everhart at stalkmarket@live.com. For information regarding Independent Sports Club awards applications, contact Marti Edwards at medwardsgl@yahoo.com
