Obituary – Clara M. Evans

Clara M. Evans, 91 of Kremmling, Colo., passed away Oct. 26, 2009, at Cliffview Assisted Living Center in Kremmling.Clara was born Sept. 1, 1918, at McMahon homestead south of Parshall, Colo., to Edward and Emily McMahon, the fifth of six children. She attended the Hermosa School with three to 10 other students through eighth grade and attended High School in Kremmling for one year.In her childhood years to travel anywhere was on horseback or wagon in summer and skis or feedsled in the winter. In her late teens she worked in Kremmling for Dr. and Mrs. Sudan and also as a waitress at the La Casa Caf.At a dance at the clubhouse building on the Williams Forks Aubrey (Rusty) Evans gave her an engagement ring and they were married Nov. 30, 1941, in Steamboat Springs.Clara and Rusty worked for Fred DeBerard and F. A. Fields & Sons in their early married life, later purchasing the Hermosa Ranch at Parshall, where they raised registered and commercial Hereford cattle. It was here where their two sons grew up. They later leased the Harry Morris Ranch at Granby, the Alfred & Rudy Just Ranches at Tabernash and the Soap Creek Ranch at Walden.Clara spent many days in the hayfield, rode horseback many a mile, cooked for many a hay crew and family gatherings and spent many a cold day on the feed sled with her husband and enjoyed it all. She was still riding horseback at brandings when she was 89 years old. Clara milked cows most of her life selling her last milk cow when she was 72 years old.Clara loved spending time with her grandchildren and they were fortunate to be able to work in the hayfields and ride horseback beside their grandmother to work the cattle. She enjoyed watching them with their 4-H livestock projects and them playing high school sports. Clara’s life revolved around her family, Hereford cattle and horses.Clara and Rusty retired from ranching in 1991 at 73 years of age and moved to Walden; moving to Cliffview Assisted Living Center in Kremmling in 2005.Clara was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Rusty, her five brothers and her parents. She is survived by sons Blaine (Judy) Evans of Walden, Rod (Karlene) Evans of Challis, Idaho; Grandchildren Ginger (Jeff) Chance of Ballico, Calif., Lynnette (Mike) Telck of Walden, Jolene (Dusting) Condit of Littleton, and April (Jesse) Myers of Fort Collins; Step-Grandchildren Tim Powers of Elko, Nev., and Lorenda (Mike) Smith of Astoria, Ore.; and 17 Great-Grandchildren.Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2009, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Kremmling. Viewing will be from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the church prior to the service.Memorials may be sent to Cliffview Assisted Living Center, P.O.
