Shop ’til you drop, “big box style,” is the message we are being bombarded with for the next three weeks. I say shop ’til you drop, “Grand Lake style,” and enjoy an Olde Fashioned Christmas. This just might be the year to take a breath, slow down, and start some family traditions. Here are some ideas:1. Make a nice hearty soup from the Thanksgiving turkey bones.2. Peggy Mann will welcome in the season with an evening of inspirational music on Friday, Dec. 4, 7-8:30 p.m. at Trinity Church in the Pines. A $10 donation is requested.3. The Stillwater Women’s Ministry is hosting a women’s luncheon and program “Love’s Remarkable Plan” on Saturday, Dec. 5, at noon. Lunch and dessert are provided, please RSVP by Dec. 1 to 4. Gather with friends and family for an evening of tree decorating.5. Help others by attending the Delicious Dishes dinner benefit for the Mountain Family Center at the Daven Haven — Thursday, Dec. 10, from 5-9 p.m. Delicious Dishes also needs handcrafted Christmas Items and other Silent Auction Items (services, photos or artwork, holiday baked goods, or ??). They can be dropped off at Grand Lake Town Hall. Please put a “value” on each gift!6. Spend an evening with the family making cookies and baked goods to share.7. Saturday, Dec. 12 – Breakfast with Santa – 8-11 a.m. Bears Den. Celebrate holiday fun with prizes, a delicious family breakfast, photo opportunity with Santa himself, and more. Breakfast is $10 – adult and $5 – child, 10 percent of all proceeds will be donated to the Grand Arts Council. Call 627-3385 for reservations. Fire engine rides with Santa – 11 a.m., Town Park.8. Spend an evening singing carols through the neighborhood – ending with hot chocolate and devouring those cookies you baked.9. More ideas next week.Tickets are now on sale for the Holiday Melodrama, “Peril at Pumpernickel Pass.” This annual Grand Arts Council Production will be held once again at the Grand Lake Community House theater at 8 p.m. nightly, Dec. 26-31. Tickets are available at Never Summer Mountain Products and on line through PayPal at grandartscouncil.com. Will the villain foil the day? Will the sweet young thing find her own true love? Will our hero save the day? Don’t miss this year’s production.The Circle H is celebrating it’s 2nd season opening of “Audio Visual Enlightenment” (AVE) on Thursday, Dec. 3, featuring “Tight Like That” with Brad Pregeant, Lynnea Godfriaux and Patrick Brower. Lynnea will be exhibiting her visual talents with pastels, watercolor & Oils. The doors open at 4 p.m., the music will start at 6:30 p.m. Door cover is $5. There will be drawings for great items throughout the evening. April is giving first pick at this event to purchase glasswork’s on sale offering 20 percent to 50 percent off on select items. This sale will continue through Christmas.Thinking about helping a family this holiday season? MFC CAN HELP!The Grand Lake Girl Scouts (Troop 3962) are sponsoring a local food drive to replenish our local food banks. (Operation Girl Scout Food Drive) Their goal is to raise 600 non-perishable items. With the help of the Grand Lake Elementary School and the Community, Troop 3962 is looking for your help! Please help by donating any non-perishable items! There are drop off boxes at the following locations: Grand Lake Plumbing & Heating, Mt. Foods Market, Circle D, anyone in Girl Scout Troop 3962.
