Granby, Kremmling served by visiting physicians specializing in musculoskeletal ailments

Dr. Bryan Bomberg and Dr. Greg Sarin, visiting specialty physicians, are orthopedic surgeons who deal with acute, chronic, traumatic, and overuse injuries as well as other disorders of the musculoskeletal system.

Both doctors have been conducting clinics in Granby and Kremmling since 1996.

Orthopedic surgeons address most musculoskeletal ailments including arthritis, trauma and congenital deformities using both surgical and non-surgical means.

The most common procedures performed are reconstructive surgeries for knee and shoulder injuries. They also perform procedures on hips, ankles and forearms.

The types of injuries are somewhat predictable by season due to the outdoor lifestyle in the Colorado mountains.

In the fall season falls and hunting accidents are more frequent. In the winter season knee ligament injuries, shoulder dislocations and forearm fractures are more common because of skiing, snowboarding and snowmobile accidents. During the summer injury accidents are often related to motor biking, kayaking and biking.

“We’re surgeons, but we are happy to evaluate people’s other musculoskeletal concerns, not just limited to injuries, and we offer advice on how people can improve their comfort levels, mobility and ultimately their lives,” Dr. Bomberg said.

He and Dr. Sarin rotate their visits to Grand County on Tuesdays.

“It works out well,” Dr. Bomberg said, “because we cover the county and hold a consultation clinic in the morning in Granby and one in the afternoon in Kremmling.”

Dr. Bomberg and Dr. Sarin conduct their clinics consistently, which allows for follow-up throughout patient recovery and rehabilitation. Their regular presence is also seen as a benefit to the emergency room doctors who can refer to them when an emergency room case calls for it.

After a patient visits the doctors at the clinic consultation, any necessary surgeries are conducted at Kremmling Memorial Hospital on Fridays.

Surgeries keep the doctors busy occupying the procedure room at KMHD four out of every five Fridays.

“I have all the same equipment at KMHD that I have in my practice in Steamboat,” Dr. Bomberg said.

Recovery is important after a surgery, and Dr. Bomberg believes that Grand County has a great group of therapists who expedite the recovery of the patient.

“It is a good, caring bunch,” he says.

Dr. Bomberg recommends a balanced program for prevention of musculoskeletal injuries.

“Don’t just focus on strengthening and stretching programs but also include balance and core strength programs like Pilates or a yoga mix,” he noted.

Lastly, he added that people need strength, endurance training, balance and core strength, which add up to being the safest you can while enjoying your sport or activity.
