The Grand County Board of Realtors (GCBOR) recently held a charity auction to raise needed funds for the Zach Peterson family. Zach, a 2008 Middle Park High School graduate, fell asleep at the wheel and crashed his car near Grand Lake. He is now paralyzed from the waist down.

According to Debra Brynoff, GCBOR Executive Officer, “Suzi Maki, who is our President-elect is Zach’s mom. Zach is currently in Craig Rehabilitation Hospital. The family is facing enormous medical bills for his care.

“As a community of real estate professionals we asked our members to help support one of our own during this time of need. Suzi has always given so much back to the community herself and now needs to be the person on the receiving end of our help,” concluded Brynoff.

GCBOR members donated prizes that were raffled off with all the proceeds going to the Peterson family. Donors included Sonia Chritton of Sotheby’s Legendary Properties, Jody Mintkin of Channel 17, Craig Baker of Mountain Homes Illustrated, Wendy Sawyer of Mountain Timber Furnishings, Silvio DeBartolomeis of Rendezvous, Mike Ayre of Coldwell Banker Mountain Properties, and Granby attorney Stan Cazier. Almost $4,500 was raised through the purchase of raffle tickets.

Suzi Maki said, “There simply are no words to express my gratitude for the support you have given to me during this period of my family’s life. I thank you with all my heart. This ‘brave new world’ my son has entered will continue to be challenging but knowing we have the support of this community is heartwarming and will be even more so when Zach finally gets home. Our family will never forget your generosity.”

A community fund has been established for Zach Peterson. Donations can be made at any Grand Mountain Bank location.
