Heart of the Mountains Hospice appreciates Grand County
December 14, 2012
Last Month our country celebrated National Hospice Month.
Hospice care is comprised of a team of professionals and volunteers who provide in-home physical, psycho-social and spiritual support to terminally ill patients and their families. For the population size of Grand County, we are fortunate to have a local Hospice organization. Heart of the Mountains Hospice has been operating in Grand County for 12 years. The hospice strives to create end-of-life options that allow patients choices that maintain dignity and integrity in providing high quality home hospice and respite care for individuals and their support systems within the communities of Grand County.
At Heart of the Mountains, no one is turned away because of inability to pay. Hospice services are covered by Medicare and Medicaid in Colorado and by some private health insurance policies. However, government health agencies and private insurance reimbursements cover only a portion of the costs to provide Hospice services. Approximately 40 percent of Heart of the Mountain’s funding comes from grants and donations from the residents and businesses in our County. Without this generous giving, the organization would not be able to continue to provide much-needed hospice services to Grand County.
Hear of the Mountains has two major fundraisers each year. A record $35,000 was raised for the hospice this past July at the annual golf tournament at Pole Creek Golf Course. Some 168 golfers participated in the tournament. The Pole Creek staff was amazing and contributed greatly to our success. Many local businesses generously contributed items for the silent auction held in conjunction with the tournament. The second fundraiser is the Grand Lake Open Swim event. Fifty swimmers participated this past August and raised $7,800 for Heart of the Mountains by recruiting sponsors for their swim across the lake.
Through the efforts of dedicated staff, energetic volunteers, and generous donors, the hospice is able to provide quality care for patients and families who are affected by a terminal illness. Heart of the Mountains treats the person, not the disease; focuses on the family and emphasizes the quality of life through the end of life. The organization is always looking for volunteer assistance, individuals to participate as board members and general supporters of the organization. You may contact Heart of the Mountains Hospice at (970) 725-3378 for additional information regarding volunteer opportunities. The website is http://www.grandcountyhospice.org.
Heart of the Mountains is grateful for the generous support of our community and we want to take this opportunity to give Grand County our sincere thank you.
