Kremmling Christmas craft fair a great place to connect with community

Last Saturday was the big day for Christmas bazaars and craft shows around the county. I spent the day at the craft fair sponsored by the Kremmling Pre-School, a major fundraiser for them.

This was my first time at this show so I can’t compare it to previous years, but there was a good variety of vendors and a large crowd, especially through the first four hours. I hope the fundraising end of things went well for the school as the effort they put into the fair certainly deserved to catch the attention of the community.

Local shows like the pre-school fair can teach a lot about the community around you. I met two neighbors there for the first time, people I have probably waved to throughout the year without knowing exactly who they were. One of the vendors there was a young lady selling some of her original artwork, jewelry and related items, all definitely high quality. What was really interesting though was hearing about the dog sled team she runs with her father. I had come across her work at a couple of shows this year but never would have guessed that about her.

Unfortunately I didn’t catch her name but I am sure most people who went to that show will know who I am talking about.

My point if I had one is that learning these things about the people around this area is what builds a sense of community. Not everyone who has a story to tell makes it onto the Discovery Channel, but they might live next door to you. If you know someone with an interesting story or even if you find yourself interesting, share it with us. I would be more than happy to tell your story to the rest of the community.

Since it has stopped snowing the last couple of days and I have gone back to putting off my list of things to do before it snows, now would be a good time to drive around and enjoy the Christmas decorations. As a matter of fact, Kremmling’s Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring the “Decorate Downtown” holiday lighting contest for members of the Chamber. The entry fee is only $5 with the first place winner collecting $50, $30 for second place and $20 for third place. Winners will also receive LED string lights from Mountain Parks Electric Inc.

It is not as much about the money as having fun dressing up Kremmling for the holidays. Contest forms are due to the Chamber by Dec. 12 with judging results being announced Dec.19. Participating is no guarantee you are off the naughty list, but it is a good start.
