Rescue personnel from Grand County Search and Rescue and the BLM rescued a 21-year-old woman who had spent the night on a ledge above a Class III rapid on the Colorado River Thursday, June 5. All five occupants were ejected from their raft at Yarmony rapid at 6:20 pm on Wednesday, June 4, all but the recued subject made it back to the raft. Efforts to find the woman Wednesday night proved fruitless. She was located just after 10 a.m. on Thursday stranded on the ledge surrounded by sheer cliffs on one side and the Colorado River on the other. Rescue crews traversed steep terrain above the subject and rappelled one rescuer down to her. The subject was cold and exhausted from her ordeal, but uninjured. She had lost her shoes.
