January 14, 2010
DENVER (AP) – Hundreds of businesses near downtown Denver have been left without electricity, but the cause isn’t yet known.
Mark Stutz of Xcel Energy says the outage started at about 7:45 a.m. Thursday just east of downtown. Some areas were restored by 9 a.m.
Xcel says about 2,900 customers were affected by the original outage.
Police have been dispatched to direct traffic at intersections without working signals.
The Regional Transportation District says none of its electric-powered light rail trains lost power.
The state Capitol, where the governor is preparing to deliver his annual State of the State speech, wasn’t affected.
