Rau family thanks community for all its support

Charlie and Diana Lynn Rau want to thank our wonderful community and friends for their loving support during the first year after the deaths of Charlie’s Mom, our son Tim and Diana’s Mom during June, July and August of 2009. Such support means the world to everyone who has lost family.

We may not always show our grief in public but the tears often flow in our times alone. Good memories are best lived again and again and we may often talk of our loved ones to our friends making everyone realize that those lost to us on earth are still with us. Hopefully Tim’s “I can do it” attitude will stay with his classmates and friends to inspire them to greater heights then they could ever imagine. Hopefully his kindness, patience, and never give up way of looking at the world will help his friends and everyone who knew him make good decisions for the rest of their lives.

We have celebrated Tim by helping build an Accessible Camping Platform at Green Ridge ANRA Campground that is available to everyone. We want to thank Dan Mathews at ANRA, JoAnne Roberts of High Plains Pediatric Therapy and her nephew Preston Primmer who made this his Eagle Scout project, all the scouts and their families who came to help with the construction, Highland Lumber, Indian Peaks Rentals, Morrow and Sons, and Jack Reichert and his daughter Haley, and Sean Saffell for all their help.

Last year Charlie built a bench for Tim that was at the Middle Park High School all winter where the kids signed it with loving messages. This was installed on Father’s Day on the Fraser to Granby Trail looking out over the YMCA meadow. Tim was born on Father’s Day, which was the summer solstice in 1992. We scattered some of Tim’s ashes and planted flowers in front of the bench. Please stop by, have a rest on the bench, talk with Tim and water the flowers.

We have planned a Memorial Raft trip on the Upper Colorado for Sunday, June 27. Call us to sign up, organize transportation, rafts, life vests and paddles and a picnic. We need boats and gear, paddle captains, and vehicles for shuttles. We need helpers for a picnic at Radium. We plan to put in at Pumphouse, picnic at Radium, take out at either Radium for those wanting a shorter day or Yarmony Bridge for those wanting a longer day. Anyone planning to come needs a life jacket and paddle if you have one, hat, sun glasses with retainer, sunscreen and water bottle. Don’t forget something to contribute to the picnic! And check out facebook.

This is the weekend between Tim’s birthday and the anniversary of his death on July 4th. Tim would want everyone to have fun together. Please call 887-3095 or 970-655-8036 to let us know you want to come.

Later this summer we will be building a shelter for the horses at the NSCD Therapeutic Riding Center at the YMCA. Tim rode there for many years and loved the horses. Look for more information in August. And to any kids needing funds to participate in Archery this summer, there is an Archery Scholarship fund established in Tim’s name.

Tim Rau will live on in our minds and hearts forever. Long live Tim!
