September 8, 2009
Grand County Search and Rescue and Grand County EMS were called out Monday at about 7 p.m. to rescue an injured motorcyclist near the top of Stillwater Pass, west of Grand Lake. After some difficulty finding the 34-year-old man, rescuers reached his location just after 9 p.m. The patient, who had multiple serious injuries, was packaged in a litter for a short hand carry over rough terrain, then loaded on the EMS six wheeler for a ride to a waiting Flight for Life helicopter. The nearest safe landing zone was several miles on poor road from the accident site. All rescuers were out of the field and the patient on his way to Denver by 11:30 p.m.
