CRIPPLE CREEK, Colo. (AP) – Rescuers are trying to rescue two dogs trapped in a gold mine shaft near Cripple Creek.
Teller County sheriff’s animal-control officers Wednesday tried coaxing the dogs out of a Cripple Creek and Victor Gold Mine with food, treats and water. It didn’t work.
Sheriff’s spokesman Deputy Mikel Baker says officials are worried about human safety in sending a search-and-rescue team down the 500-foot Ironclad Mine. It is unclear how long the dogs have been there.
Baker says one dog appears to be a border collie, while the other is a smaller dog that doesn’t appear to want to leave the collie’s side.
