Skier Safety Awareness week starts Saturady
January 18, 2013
The National Ski Area Association’s 14th annual National Safety Awareness week begins Jan. 19.
In recognition of the event, Winter Park Resort will be conducting a number of activities to help emphasize the importance of safety on the slopes with a chance to win a season pass to the resort for the 2013-14 winter season.
Winter Park hosts and Ski Patrollers will be out on the mountain around the base and village. If you see one of the hosts or patrollers wearing a “Know the Code” armband, you can chat with them about the Skier Code to have your name entered into the drawing for next year’s season pass.
The Winter Park Ski Patrol will also have a tent set up at Snoasis from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 19 and 20, with National Ski Areas Association giveaways and the opportunity to learn the Code and sign up for the season pass drawing.
The resort will also be conducting a contest where local students from Fraser Valley Elementary can submit posters depicting an element of the Responsibility Code. Posters will be judged on how the safety message is conveyed and overall creativity with the winners getting a chance to spend a day with Winter Park Ski Patrol as well as having their art displayed.
The posters will be displayed at the Balcony House at the resort during the week and the winners will be recognized at a ceremony that will take place at 3:15 p.m. on Jan. 18, at West Portal Station.
Wining posters from the local competition will be submitted to the National Ski Area Association to be entered into the national competition where the winner’s art will be displayed on their website.
