Skier visits double at tiny Chapman Hill Ski Area in Durango

DURANGO, Colo. (AP) – The tiny Chapman Hill Ski Area in Durango says its skier visits more than doubled this season.

The 98 inches of snow it got this winter didn’t hurt.

The city-run facility was open Dec. 9 to March 14. The ski area says it had 2,096 total visits this winter. Of those, 589 came from the 21 people who bought season passes.

Adult day passes to use the rope tows are $10, while adult season passes were $100.

Director of Parks and Recreation Cathy Metz said revenue figures for the year should be available next month.

The city budgeted $36,000 to operate the hill this year. Last year, the city made $4,000 at Chapman.
