A total of 452 runners, walkers, wheelchair racers, stroller pushers and dog walkers went the distance in the 14th Annual Run for Independence in the Fraser Valley on Saturday, July 5.

Starting at the base of the Winter Park Resort, participants followed the 5-mile race course down the Fraser River Trail through the town of Winter Park to the finish line at the Ski Broker in Fraser.

The proceeds from the race go to the Scott Hughes Endowment Fund, which is administered by the Children’s Hospital Foundation. The money is used to fund scholarships for children to participate in Camp Chief Ouray at the YMCA of the Rockies near Granby. The children are able to take part in the camp because they can receive dialysis treatments at the YMCA’s Vacation Kidney Center.

In the results for Saturday’s race, the fastest time over the five-mile course was turned in by Ju Gindlesperger with 25:41.2. The first female runner to cross the finish line was Vicki Cauller with a time of 29:47.4.
