Middle Park High School participated in its fourth Nordic meet of the season at Maloit Park on Saturday, February 4. MPHS had 12 boys and 12 girls participating against 12 other high schools. This event was a pursuit, meaning athletes ski a 2.5k classic course followed by a 2.5k skate race. The team did exceptionally well with the boys tying for first place with Vail in the skate race while the girls came in an impressive 4th in the classic race. Skiers faced continually changing conditions, with warm temperatures and snow in the morning followed by periods of sun and spring-like conditions in the afternoon.

The boy's results were strongest in the skate race, with MPHS skier Tyler Scholl coming in 2nd followed by teammates Theo Loo at 4th and Elliot Shaw at 16th. Rounding out the boy's roster for the team were Jensen Hill, Liam Fuqua, Vinny Troccoli, Kimo Sullivan, Wil Cleveland, Jake Kacik, Isaiah Callarman, Eric Berry and Aiden Carver. Scholl, Loo, Sebastian Brower, Shaw, Hill, Fuqua, Troccoli, Sullivan, Cleveland, Carver, and Berry have all qualified for the state race.

For the girls, the classic race was more impressive with Emily Jensen finishing 10th overall, Sage Michel 12th, and Lizzie Barker 28th. Also competing for the women were Raelee Granger, Darby Howard, Alyssa Petersen, Mackenzie Deplata, Katelyn Cimino, Selena Stoncius, Jesse Hoyta, Emily Deplata, and Ryleigh Sutcliffe. Jensen, Michel, Barker, Granger, Howard, Peterson, M. Deplata, and Cimino have all qualified for the girl's state race.

The team has one more regular season meet Saturday, February 11 at the Frisco Nordic Center. Athletes who have qualified for the State competition will continue to practice until heading to that event in Steamboat Springs February 23 and 24.
