Devils Thumb The Friday Fun Kid’s Cross-country Ski Program at Devil’s Thumb Ranch continues on Fridays 10-11:30 a.m. through March 12. Hot cocoa to follow in the Nordic Center. Age: 2-12; most of the kids are 3-6 years old. Fee: $20 for the entire 10 weeks ($2 per week) to cover hot chocolate. Equipment rental, instruction & trail pass provided by Devil’s Thumb Ranch. Meet outside the Broken Axe Barn on the entry to the trail system. Those who need to check out equipment will want to be at the rental counter before 10 a.m. Call Cassidy Edwards at Devils Thumb Activities Center 970-726-8231 for information.YMCA-Snow Mountain RanchThe YMCA program offers ski instruction for beginners and more accomplished skiers ages 5-15, skiing games, winter nature activities, and ends with a Nordic Ski Festival the last Friday. The program operates through Feb. 28 on both Friday and Sunday from 1-2:30 p.m. The Friday program gives more progressive lessons. Equipment and trail pass are provided. Women’s Quest Learn to Ski Day will take place Jan. 23 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. From beginners to advanced, lessons include both classic and skate skiing at this women’s only ski day. Activities include yoga for skiers, a ski wax clinic, shopping, and more. Cost: $85. Registration is from 9:30-10 a.m. at the range on both days. Rifles are available to rent for holders of a USBA Red Book. Other newcomers of all ages are welcome to participate with pellet rifles that can also be provided by the Colorado Biathlon Club. Volunteers needed – no experience necessary. Volunteering gives you the best view of the race and they provide all training necessary. Everyone did a GREAT job and they are looking forward to the next race in Vail on Jan. 23. They couldn’t do it without their tireless volunteers and coaches.
