Nordic State Championship results from Aspen 2016

The MPHS Nordic team traveled in style to the State Championship races on the train to Glenwood Springs, and then on to Aspen by bus arriving relaxed and ready to ski..A 5K classic race was held on Feb. 25 and a 5K skate race on Feb. 26. Both days were unseasonably warm, but the snow held up well and spectators enjoyed the clear weather and great racing.

The boys team earned a 1st place league team award for classic races for the season. Logan Miyauchi dominated the Aspen classic course with a 5th place finish in a time of 15:03. Theo Loo was 10th in 15:52, Ian Carver 17th, Elliot Shaw 18th, and Mark Simmons 25th. Jensen Hill, Liam Fuqua, Jake Kacik, Alex Law, Sawyer Cousineau, and Kyle Ciccarelli finished it off for the team.

Sierra Smith had a strong 13th place finish in a time of 19:47 in the girls classic race, followed by Emily Jensen in 17th at 20:24. Rowen Gallagher was 25th, Darby Howard 36th, Lizzy Barker 40th, Sarah McClain 45th, Raelee Granger 55th, and Katlyn Cimino 62nd.

The boys team scored a 3rd place team league award for the season in skate races. In a race decided by hundreths of a second. Logan Miyauchi skied to another 5th place finish Friday in the skate race in a time of 13:05, followed closely by Theo Loo in 7th at 13:08, then Mark Simmons in 19th. Elliot Shaw was 31st, Ian Carver 40th, Liam Fuqua 43rd, Jensen Hill 57th, and Kyle Ciccarelli 58th.

First in for Middle Park in the girls skate race was Sierra Smith with 15th place in 16:53, then Emily Jensen 27th in 18:09, followed by Lizzy Barker in 32nd. Rowen Gallagher came in 35th and Darby Howard 42nd.

It was an amazing season for the team and their coaches Travis Fuqua and Sarai Reed. Great Job Everyone! Thanks for all the support from the school, SMR, parents, and the community.
