Middle Park Boys basketball kept up their winning ways by beating Frontier opponents Bruce Randolph and Denver School of Science & Technology (DSST) this past weekend. Traveling to Bruce Randolph in Denver on Friday, the boys left little doubt about the outcome as they easily won 58-37. With Cort Brennan, Johnny Stensvad and Ben Eaton all scoring in double figures, the Panthers were too strong for the home team. Once again the Middle Park defense was stellar as they forced 14 turnovers and limited Bruce Randolph to only 27 percent shooting. On Saturday, high-scoring DSST, averaging 71 points per game, came to town looking to improve on their 4th place in the Frontier League standings. It was not to be as the Panthers took a 1 point first quarter lead and never relinquished it. In a tough and physical battle that saw 40 fouls called, the visitors made a strong fourth quarter effort that fell short. Excellent free-throw shooting by Cort Brennan and Johnny Stensvad preserved the lead as the Panthers went on to win 59-51, holding the visitors 20 points below the average point production. Middle Park improves to 13-4 (8-2 in league) and places the team in a tie with Sheridan for 2nd place. The Panthers have their final regular season game at Arrupe Jesuit on Tuesday and look to secure a favorable seeding for the upcoming District Tournament with a win.
