March 5, 2008
Although it is still winter, golfers in the Second Annual Lake Granby Ice Golf Classic couldnt have asked for a nicer day than last Saturday to have a fun competition.Hosted by the Grand Elk Golf Club and Marina, the 2008 Lake Granby Ice Golf Classic saw its numbers more than double over those for last years inaugural competition. Twelve teams of four players each competed on the lakes ice in front of the Grand Elk Marina.During this fun event, the golfers played nine holes, shooting for holes drilled in the ice. Under the rules of the competition, each golfer had the use of only two clubs and a putter. Instead of regular golf balls, the competitors used tennis balls. Awards were given to the top players in the following categories: High Score Rhonda with Sod GodsBest Team (Tie with scorecard tie- breaker) Headwaters Team (Pete, Craig, Kory and Shawn)Best Individual Greg with Freezin Our Butts OffBest Dressed Ben with Bob & JenHole in 1 Tina with Everist Materials. For Saturdays golf competition on Lake Granby, snow was plowed from the fairways and greens. Crews from Pole Creek Golf Course, Headwaters Golf Course and Grand Elk Golf Course joined together to get the course ready and they all did a great job, said Tim Wolfgram, who is a member of the events organizing committee with Tracy Chambers and Sharon Brenner. It was a beautiful day Saturday and we had a great turnout with 48 golfers and lots of spectators. It was a lot of fun.
