Scholl leads Kremmling team at Soroco wrestling match

Eric Scholl finished in second place to lead the West Grand High School wrestling team Saturday, Dec. 8, at the Soroco High School Invitational Tournament in Oak Creek.

A junior wrestling at 152 pounds, Scholl won his first match, which was an exhibition match. He then pinned Eric Fleming of Moffat County. In the final match of the day against Jake McGee of Hayden, Scholl suffered his first defeat of the year by a score of 6-2.

Curtis Frederickson and Lee Elliott placed third in the round-robin format, despite losing both of their matches. Fredrickson wrestles at 215 pounds and Elliott is in the 103-pound weight division. Elliott, a freshman, and Frederickson, a junior, both squared off against tough competition.

Wrestling at 125 pounds, AJ Silva injured his knee in the first match of the day and was unable to continue.

Also wrestling at 125 pounds, Chase Hill was able to win one of his four matches and finish in fourth place. His victory was a pin against Juan Gonzales from Battle Mountain.

Freshman Kele Bock faces very tough competition in the 160-pound weight class. It is often one of the most competitive weight classes. Bock did not place in last weekend’s competition.

West Grand is hosting the annual Mustang Wrestling Classic this Saturday in Kremmling. There will be more than 20 teams competing in the event, making it one of the most competitive wrestling matches prior to Christmas.

The public is encouraged to come to the tournament and support the Mustangs wrestlers. It is the only home wrestling match of the season for West Grand.
