Snowcross races at Colorado Adventure Park Friday, Saturday
December 15, 2016
If you have seen the giant semi trucks rolling into Grand County then you probably know there are snowmobile races taking place this weekend.
The ISOC (International Series of Champions) racing series will take place on Friday and Saturday at Colorado Adventure Park in Fraser. The event is the series' second stop out of eight on their national tour.
This is the first time the races have been held in Colorado, and ISOC President Carl Schubitzke said he is hoping to make it a tradition for Grand County. "I hope people come check it out," Schubitzke said. "Our goal is to come back and we want to be welcomed into the community. It's good family fun and an exciting event."
Schubitzke said the snowcross event could be a great way to bring people to the community to help the economy. He said he hopes that people start planning their week around it, and use their yearly ski trip to also attend the races. The event ended up in Grand County because of connections Schubitzke had to the area. He then got in touch with Colorado Adventure Park and now Grand County will be featured in a nationally televised event.
Schubitzke said there would be about 150 participants in the event as a whole. Many of the competitors will go on to compete in the X-Games.
Schubitzke said he is unsure how many spectators will turn up for the event, but he was hopeful it would draw a good crowd because of the snowmobile community that Grand Count has. He also knows that people in this area are tough, and cold weather does not prevent them from getting outside in harsh conditions.
