Winter Park cancer ski down raises $16K

WINTER PARK — The fourth annual Winter Park Professional Ski Patrol's TJV Ski Down for Cancer fundraiser proved to be an incredible success, exceeding goals in terms of both participants and funds raised, all to benefit the American Cancer Society and Cavett Kids Foundation.

More than 250 Winter Park Resort employees and volunteers descended Lower Hughes Trail last Saturday in an inspirational display of solidarity against the dreaded disease. Countless donors joined the fight as well, as more than $16,000 was raised through donations online, in person, and through the event's silent auction, shattering the pre-event goal of $10,000.

Dedicated in honor of Thomas James Veit, a 12-year Winter Park ski patroller who lost his valiant battle with colon cancer in 2011, this year's TJV Ski Down for Cancer was by far the biggest yet, but it's still not too late to contribute to this incredible cause.
