Suburban Denver pot grower due in court

DENVER (AP) – A suburban Denver marijuana grower raided by federal drug authorities earlier this year is due in court – but it’s no certainty Chris Bartkowicz (BART’-kuh-wits) is going to be there.

Bartkowicz was scheduled to change his not guilty plea Friday morning. But earlier this week, Bartkowicz’s lawyer told the court that he’s lost touch with his client.

Bartkowicz was charged after appearing on KUSA-TV talking about his homegrown business in Highlands Ranch. The Bartkowicz case has alarmed marijuana growers across Colorado, who say they’re being unfairly targeted.

The Drug Enforcement Administration insists pot growers aren’t being targeted unless they’re suspected of breaking state rules or are involved inn other crimes.
