Teacher suspects students tampered with her drink

DURANGO, Colo. (AP) – Cortez police are investigating whether a high school teacher of family and consumer science was drugged or poisoned by her students.

A police report says Montezuma-Cortez High School teacher Kelli Reder reported feeling “high” after drinking a smoothie that four boys made for an assignment Sept. 22 and suspected they had drugged it.

She was taken to a hospital but has since returned to school. Police say test results on the smoothie and Reder’s blood are pending.

The Durango Herald reports that the boys told the assistant principal they didn’t add anything to the smoothie but sugar.

Reder, the school principal and school district officials didn’t return phone calls from the newspaper seeking comment.
