Veterans Rally rolls into the Fraser Valley this weekend

The Fraser Valley will come alive this coming weekend, August 14-16, with the sounds of thunder as tens of thousands of patriots and United States Veterans come together in a display of patriotism and camaraderie for the 17th oldest and largest veterans and motorcycling event in the western U.S.Keynote speaker for the 22nd Annual POW/MIA Remembrance Ceremony will be Vietnam Veteran and United States Air Force ACE Fighter Pilot Brigadier General Steve Ritchie.Ritchie became the United States Air Force’s first and only pilot ACE of the Vietnam War.Other VIP guests for the annual ceremony include United States Army Purple Heart recipient Matthew Kiel, CMSgt. William Usry, Command Senior Enlisted Leader NORAD-USNORTHCOM and American EX-POW Lester Stroup, and Colorado Gov. Bill Ritter is sending Major General H. Michael Edwards to the ceremony via Blackhawk helicopter to speak at the ceremony.A new feature to this year’s festivities will be a Joint Military Color Guard representing all five Armed Forces Branches courtesy of United States Northern Command. The United States Air Force High Frontier Honor Guard will perform the traditional “Empty Table” Ceremony. As tradition dictates, the United States Marine Corps will provide substantial support for the event including the Marine Corps 21 Gun Salute.The 2009 Veterans Rally free concert series features regional live musical talent and other Rally features include the 22nd annual POW/MIA Recognition staging on Saturday morning in Granby, the Veterans Parade through downtown Winter Park, a vendor show, Wild West Gunfighters, and air support from both the military and civilian sectors.The Combat Vets Motorcycle Association will hold their annual Veterans Poker Run on Friday beginning at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Traveling Wall in Fraser.
