Victim in truck-train crash from Trinidad, Colo.
July 19, 2010
TRINIDAD, Colo. (AP) – A driver who was killed when his pickup truck collided with an Amtrak train near Trinidad has been identified as 55-year-old Carl Veltri of Trinidad.
Investigators say the truck failed to stop for an approaching train at a railroad crossing around 10 a.m. Friday. Authorities say that after the crash, the train dragged the pickup truck nearly a half-mile before coming to a stop.
No injuries were reported among the 303 people on the train.
The Colorado State Patrol says there are no crossing arms at the intersection, but signs mark the train crossing.
The State Patrol did not believe alcohol use or a lack of visibility at the railroad crossing were factors in the crash.
