Wilkinson to represent state at National Electric Cooperative Meeting

Submitted to the Sky-Hi

Jill Wilkinson, Mountain Parks Electric’s 2014 Washington, D.C. Youth Tour student, was elected to represent National Rural Electric Cooperative Association Youth Leadership Council for the State of Colorado.

Jill Wilkinson, a West Grand High School junior from Kremmling, will represent Colorado on the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA) Youth Leadership Council (YLC). Representing Mountain Parks Electric, Wilkinson was selected by 30 of her peers during the Washington D.C. Youth Tour to return to our nation's capital in July for training on public speaking and leadership. In February 2015, she will also attend the NRECA Annual Meeting with students from 42 states.

The Colorado Youth Tour takes electric cooperative students to Washington D.C. to visit the United States Senate and House of Representatives, national monuments, and learn about the policy process and electric cooperatives. One Youth Tour delegate from each state is chosen to participate on the YLC. These students return to our nation's capitol for a week of leadership training at the NRECA headquarters and then represent their state at the NRECA Annual Meeting in Orlando, Fla., in February 2015.

"I really wanted to be the Colorado delegate because having the chance to go to D.C. again and then Orlando representing the great state of Colorado sounded amazing to me," Wilkinson said.

During the NRECA Annual Meeting meeting, Wilkinson will work at the NRECA Congressional Action Center encouraging cooperative leaders to contact their members of Congress about co-op issues. She will also have educational forum opportunities and be recognized as Colorado's representative in front of thousands of electric cooperative leaders from around the country.

Mountain Parks Electric, Inc.(MPEI) is a distribution cooperative serving Grand, Jackson, Summit, Routt and Larimer Counties. MPEI provides power to about 20,000 member-owned meters in our service area. High school juniors are encouraged to apply each fall for the next year's youth program.
