Winter Park Resort announces Epic Singletrack Series registration
May 3, 2012
On-line registration is now available for Winter Park’s mountain bike race series. Seven race dates mark the start of the 20th anniversary of the Epic Singletrack Series. The series features hill climbs and cross-country courses – there is a race for everyone utilizing the 600+ miles of mountain bike terrain in the Winter Park and Fraser Valley. The series will kick off Winter Park Resort’s summer season opening day, Saturday, June 16, 2012.
Two new race courses this year include the Epic Short-Track Cross-Country and a cross-country race in Rendezvous.
Participants have seven categories to race in: pro/semi-pro, expert, sport, beginner, clydesdale, single speed and open. Staggered start waves keep athletes spread out on the course.
John Brickner, a Fraser resident, won in the expert category – back to back in 2010 and 2011.
This year he has turned pro and will race a majority of the Epic Singletrack races, except for the Hill Climb due to racing in the World Championship qualifier in Colorado Springs on the same day.
“Each race in the series has a large field (of racers) so people like it. It’s well organized and profession.”

The courses are marked really well, and any areas of confusion there is a marshal, he said.
“Anyone who wants to try a race should give it a shot, racing is a humbling experience,” Brickner said.
Brickner races for the Winter Park Winery Mountain Bike Team and the team is looking to expand.
“Any locals interested on being on a team, we are looking for four more riders,” he said.
Volunteers are needed to assist with such a large race series and will be compensated with different options: (1) winter lift ticket or (1) Trestle Bike Park ticket for every five hours worked or parents of competition center athletes can work towards a “work deposit refund” applicable to multi-week programs during the winter season.
