Polis selected to Vice Chair for the Steering and Policy Committee
December 4, 2016
Rep. Jared Polis (D-Colo.) released the following statement regarding the announcement that Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi and the House Democratic Caucus Steering and Policy Committee approved his appointment as Vice Chair.
“I'm honored to begin serving as Vice Chair for the Steering and Policy Committee," Polis said.
"While there will be challenges ahead next Congress, this new position will allow me to continue the fight for policies and ideas that help all Americans and move our country and the world toward a more sustainable and fairer future. I look forward to hitting the ground running.”
The Steering and Policy Committee is an important and powerful wing of the House Democratic Caucus. The Committee assists the Caucus in assigning party members to House committees and counsels Caucus leadership on legislation.
Polis is also retaining his role as Parliamentarian for the Steering and Policy Committee.
Since 2009, Polis has served Colorado's Second Congressional District in Congress. He is the former Chair of the Colorado State Board of Education, and the founder and former superintendent of The New America School – a network of charters schools in Colorado and New Mexico serving new immigrants and English-language learners – as well as the Academy for Urban Learning for homeless youth. Prior to serving in Congress, Polis also founded several startup and tech companies, including ProFlowers.com and Techstars.
