Former Winter Park town clerk charged with assaulting officer

Taryn Adamczyk

WINTER PARK — A local woman has been charged with felonious assault following her arrest late last month at Liquor Depot in Winter Park.

Taryn Adamczyk, 32, of Winter Park has been charged with second-degree assault, a class 4 felony, after she allegedly kicked a Fraser-Winter Park police officer, according to court records.

She also faces misdemeanor charges of resisting arrest and obstructing a peace officer, in addition to a lesser charge of consuming alcohol in a public place.

Officers were dispatched just after 7 p.m. March 28 to Liquor Depot on Highway 40 in Winter Park on report of an employee who was intoxicated or under the influence of drugs, according to an affidavit in support of warrantless arrest filed March 29 with Grand County Court.

As Fraser-Winter Park Officer Stensvad indicated in the affidavit, he and fellow officer McConnell observed Adamczyk interacting with customers, noting she was the only employee in the store at the time.

After customers left, the two officers entered the store to notice Adamczyk’s eyes were bloodshot and glassy, her speech was slurred and her balance was very poor, according to the affidavit. Her behavior was described as odd.

Officers then noticed several open bottles of alcohol, the affidavit indicated.

“Adamczyk was extremely uncooperative and believed she wasn’t doing anything wrong,” Stensvad said in the affidavit. Adamczyk told officers she didn’t have her employer’s contact information when asked and gave a fake first name for them.

When officers finally contacted one of the store’s owners, it was said that employees were not allowed to drink alcohol or be under the influence while at work and the owner agreed with the officer that Adamczyk’s behavior sounded “bizarre,” according to the affidavit.

Officers then decided to arrest her, which she resisted, according to the affidavit.

While McConnell was walking her to a patrol car, Adamczyk raised her right leg and kicked him in his right thigh, directly next to his groin, the affidavit stated.

She was then helped into the vehicle and transported to the Grand County Jail, without further incident.

The incident, according to Stensvad, was recorded on his body camera.

Adamczyk left her position as clerk for the town of Winter Park and was hired as general manger of the Liquor Depot, which opened in November.

She has since been released from jail on bond.
