In the spotlight | 2018 Best bike shop: Totally Wired Cyclery

Upon stepping into Totally Wired Cyclery in Fraser, the first thing you'll probably see is owner Doug Horton or one of his employees tinkering with a bike in the workshop area of the store.

Horton, who has been a bike mechanic for 28 years, said what sets his store apart is the knowledge, experience and customer service provided by the staff.

Since the store opened in 2000, it has had the chance to establish a laid-back environment, a wide selection of parts and inventory and a knowledge of the area and all kinds of bike repair issues.

"We have a large inventory of random and obscure parts that other shops don't have," Horton said, "so a lot of times when other shops can't fix it, I can."

Horton's favorite part of the job is the problem solving that comes with each new repair. It's rewarding for him to fix up a bike and know he helped someone get back to riding.

"That's what I really like the best is being able to save somebody's weekend when they've broken their bike and they're here on vacation from out town, it's really nice to keep them riding," Horton said.

The atmosphere of the shop encourages bikers of any experience level to stop in for a spot repair, to purchase new equipment or just to ask questions.
