Grand Duck Derby on Saturday

Sky-Hi News Staff Report

On Saturday June 18 in Grand Lake, the Grand Lake Rotary sponsors the 2nd Annual Grand Duck Derby starting at 1 p.m.

Last year’s winner was Grand Lake resident Bonnie Thorne who won $1,000.

“I bought a flock of tickets because it seemed like a good cause,” she said.

“Never in a million years did I expect to be a winner.”

Each duck has a number representing the ticket buyer. 2,000 ducks are released into Grand Lake. The first duck to the finish – wins.

Thorne was home when she got the call that her duck made it to the finish first. She was so excited about winning that when she received the check she went into every Grand Lake business to tell them she won.

This year she will try her luck again, and bought another flock of tickets.

All proceeds from ticket sales goes to Grand Lake Rotary projects. All costs and prize money is raised from sponsors.
