The Grand Arts Council has teamed up with Denver dancer, Rafi’ah, to present a spectacular evening of food and entertainment this Saturday, September 10. Back by popular demand, this is the 15th year for this annual fundraising event. And, sadly, it will be the finale.

Special guest musicians, the Fellaheen Ensemble will play throughout the evening. This group of talented musicians plays traditional instruments. Featured, are Ken Kohl: Doumbek and Frame Drum; Donna Lovely: Violin; Susan Flanders: Doumbek; Pete Jacobs: bass and oud. The subtle nuances and harmonies of the Middle Eastern, Turkish and Egyptian melodies will inspire the dinner guests and dancers alike.

Rafi’ah, one of the Denver area’s most celebrated Belly Dancers will be headlining the show. She is a Grand Lake favorite, having performed at this event every year. Her serpentine dance style has been labeled “liquid fire.” She amazes her audience every time with her extraordinarily fluid movement, literally floating with her silk veils. Her balance and movement while in full control of her sharpened sword blade brings applause every time. Rafi’ah will transport you to an ancient time and place where you will experience the depth and mysterious beauty of her dance.

In addition, there will also be performances by other guest belly dancers from around Colorado. The differences in style from modern cabaret to tribal and everything in between will make this an exciting and entertaining evening. Prepare to be dazzled by the costuming and amazing dance skills.

Tickets for the evening are $15 per person for the show, and can be purchased at the Grand Lake Art Gallery. You may also purchase tickets at the door. In addition to the show, Sherry Kent of Showboat Catering and Drive-by Pies has promised an exotic selection of food which may be purchased separately. Alcoholic beverages and sodas will also be available for purchase. All funds raised by this event will support the on-going programs by the Grand Arts Council. This event is one of their biggest and best. Table seating is limited so buy your tickets today. Your support for the arts in Grand County is truly appreciated.

A big thank you goes out to this year’s sponsors: Grand Mountain Bank, Mountain Parks Electric, Western Riviera, Mountain Lakes Lodge, Columbine Cabins and Grand Lake Art Gallery.
