Local painter selected for RMNP Centennial art

GRAND LAKE — Artist Howard Neville, a Granby resident with a studio in Grand Lake, has officially been selected to produce commemorative posters for Rocky Mountain National Park.

The Park has officially sanctioned three of Neville’s works, reproduced as posters to mark its 100-year anniversary. The official centennial date is Jan. 26, 2015, the Park began selling its celebratory merchandise on Jan. 1, 2014. Neville is the only painter officially selected to use the Park’s centennial logo so far. He’ll be making posters from three of his paintings, one featuring historical Southern Ute leader Chief Sapiah, or “Buckskin Charley,” and two works featuring hikers in the Park. Neville said the works stem from his love of history and genre art.

“I like landscapes as well, but people are more interesting when they’re part of that landscape,” he said.

Neville plans on displaying the original paintings at Grand County businesses, and posters will sell for $30. Although he’s received official permission to affiliate with the Park’s centennial logo celebration, Neville and other vendors are responsible for marketing their products. Images of the posters were not yet available to publish with this story.
