Rocky Mountain Repertory Theatre in Grand Lake opens its summer season with Disney’s The Little Mermaid at 8 p.m., Friday, June 17. The show is the classic tale of a young mermaid princess falling in love with a human prince. This 1989 Academy Award winning musical will be reminiscent for some audience members and wondrous for others. The stage will be transformed into a magical, underwater kingdom.

Cecilia Iole, 23 will be playing Ariel.

This season will be Iole’s third year at Rocky Mountain Rep.

“Grand Lake is special to me. It is where I got my first professional theatre gig. To come back to a place that feels like home and play Ariel – a dream role – it is surreal.”

She auditioned for the role in Chicago in February.

“I really wanted the role and prepared for it,” she said.

She grew up watching the movie so stepping into the shoes of this fairy tale character is a dream.
