Boston Brass performs Jan. 23 in Tabernash

Called North America’s finest brass ensemble, the Boston Brass performs for the first time in the Grand County Concert Series, with RE/MAX Peak to Peak, Town of Winter Park, Vasquez Inn and Volario’s as the Supporting Sponsors for the concert. The musicians of the Boston Brass have the credentials and history to deliver a unique evening of entertainment.

From Costa Rica, Jose Sibaja, trumpet, has held positions with the Miami Symphony, Sinfonieta de Caracas and Orquesta Sinfonica Venezuela. He’s active in South Florida’s Latin music scene and toured the world in Ricky Martin’s band for eight years. Sibaja has performed on Late Night with David Letterman, Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Saturday Night Live and the Grammys.

Jeff Connor, trumpet, is the only original member of Boston Brass. He formed the group 27 years ago with fellow Boston musicians. Connor is credited for the group’s fame in the world of popular chamber music. He co-authored “The Portfolio Musician, Case Studies in Success,” with Grammy Nominated Musician John Laverty.



Chris Castellanos, horn, is a former member and soloist with the Las Vegas Philharmonic and served as hornist for the Nevada Chamber Orchestra and Las Vegas Jazz Connection. As a top call freelancer, Castellanos has backed headliners on the Las Vegas strip, including Tony Bennett, Placido Domingo, Mannheim Steamroller and Josh Groban and toured with Andrea Bocelli.

Domingo Pagliuca, trombone, is a native of Venezuela. In 2008, he was appointed Principal Trombonist for both the Miami Symphony and the Florida Grand Opera Orchestra. Currently, he teaches at Florida International University. In 2011, he received four Latin Grammy Winner Certificates for his participation in the Latin Grammy Winner Album.



Sam Pilafian, tuba, is on the faculty of the University of Miami’s Frost School of Music. He has recorded and performed with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the Duke Ellington Orchestra, Lionel Hampton and Pink Floyd. He previously served on the faculties of Boston University and summer Tanglewood Institute. As a solo jazz artist, Pilafian has recorded 15 CDs.

The Boston Brass says its philosophy is to, “provide audiences with a wide variety of musical styles in unique arrangements, provided in a friendly and fun atmosphere.” Boston Brass performs on Friday, Jan. 23, at 7 p.m. at the Church of the Eternal Hills, Tabernash. A dessert reception in the Fellowship Hall follows the concert where the audience can meet the musicians.

Adult tickets, $20, are available online at the GCCS website or at the concert. Grand County students admitted free with their student ID. Adults accompanying Grand County students are $5 each. Tickets for other students are $10.
