Letter: A fine solution to our childcare problem

A fine solution to child care was successfully solved by close friends who started a family child care business. This choice allows for lots of choices such as: the person doing the business can dictate ages such as matching their own childrens’ ages; the contract can write in paid vacation, holiday times and or rates. For a span of time, our friends accepted newborns, then changed to preschool, then decided to drop after-school pickups and presently works with school teachers so the vacation times concur with the school year. During COVID, there was a great need for medical staff needs and during that time the state allowed for more children per household. For years, since the clients have become friends, all newborns of current clients were accepted. Older children had field trips and has added music lessons. The single initial expense was to borrow (from friends) for good fencing so there could be lots of safe outdoor time. Family childcare is always MUCH more affordable than other options. Some payments have been arranged by trading childcare so the clients became the caregivers for such things as a camping trip. The counties have easy-to-follow guidelines for those interested in starting and owning a family childcare business.
