Letter: Best is disillusioned on energy issues
I was reading with bemusement the stories (articles? columns?) written by Allen Best. At first I wasn’t sure if it was written tongue in cheek or not, but as I got further into the articles I realized that Mr. Best was actually earnest in his statements.
As a self proclaimed “climate hawk” I feel that Mr. Best is somewhat disillusioned in his thinking that Colorado, much less America will be able to reduce our demand enough to require less investment in new generating resources. After all, the plants being closed generated 1,200 MW of energy that has to be made up. Only so much can be made from solar and wind and gas.
I was also confused by his July 10, 2022, article comparing the shut down to the building of Interstate 70 and Denver International Airport — both of which he seemed to disparage in the same article. Can there be no pleasing of Mr. Best. His comment “With I-70, what once was close to a full-day journey from Grand Junction to Denver was shortened to a long morning. But the highway has made mountain valleys a little less lovely and far more noisy.” is very bothersome. Does he want us to go back to horse-drawn carriages? I pray that isn’t so.
