Letter: Not requiring masks in schools increases risk for infection

Letter to the editor

I was heartbroken to read the West Grand school board is choosing not to take every possible precaution to protect Grand County’s children, teachers, and staff from the devastating effects of COVID-19. By not requiring everyone in our schools to wear masks, our school board is increasing the probability that even more of our citizens will be become infected.

I am particularly concerned about children 11 years old and younger who cannot currently obtain a vaccination. I am certain there are West Grand employees who are scared for their lives but continue to work for the benefit of our children in conditions that endanger their health because they must make a living. It’s unforgiveable that an online option is not available to our children who will undoubtedly be exposed to COVID-19 at school under the current irresponsible West Grand school board policies.
