Letter: Thank you, Grand Foundation, for search and rescue grant
Grand County Search and Rescue would like to thank the Grand Foundation for their recent grant. This grant will be used towards “Rigging for Rescue” training. Technical rescue is a very specialized field requiring extensive knowledge of knots, rigging, anchors, belay and up-haul techniques, and other skills that require frequent refresher training. Rescue missions can require team members to repel down cliffs to reach injured or stranded parties, safely evacuating subjects from scree and boulder fields, or rigging winter belay lines.
Grand County Search and Rescue is an all-volunteer organization available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year with a fully qualified team of trained personnel to deal with any search or rescue within Grand County area. Typically, search and rescue supports over 50 missions a year. The organization does not charge for its services and is funded primarily by donations and grants.
