Letter to the editor: Vote McCluskie for District 13 Representative

While she will be a new voice for Grand County in the redistricted 13th, Representative Julie McCluskie has proven her commitment to the Western Slope since 2018, serving in the State House for Delta, Gunnison, Lake, Pitkin and Summit counties. In that time, Julie has successfully brought to completion legislation that focuses on real mountain community problems. Those include investments in wildfire mitigation and response, funding increases for schools, and a statewide reinsurance program which brought down individual health insurance premiums on the Western Slope by 35%. Last year’s efforts alone included expanding mental health support for police, creating incentives for affordable housing, and funding for talent development initiatives that meet local labor market needs.

There are two principal reasons for her legislative effectiveness. First, she is vice chair of the Appropriations Committee and chair of the Budget Committee. Because she works hard, her voice is heard in Denver. Second, Julie is committed to bipartisan solutions to our state’s problems. She reaches across the aisle and compromises to get thing done. This is best demonstrated by her efforts on the State Water Plan, protecting Western Slope waters, and funding local water projects such as the Goose Pasture Tarn Dam renovation in Summit County. Born and raised in Colorado, Julie and her husband Jamie have two children and spend their family time in the mountains. If you want to protect and improve our mountain way of life, vote for Julie McCluskie.
