In the spotlight | 2018 Best liquor store: R & J Liquors

Right in the heart of downtown Granby rests a little liquor store with a big selection and giant heart.

R&J Liquors, owned by Ed Raegner, has served patrons in central Grand County for many years and while the store boasts hundreds of wine choices, classic brews, a myriad of hard liquors and a wide variety craft beer selections it is the customer service and congenial staff that draws repeat customers.

“I think we have a very friendly environment and friendly staff,” Raegner said. “We also try to be very active in the community.”

Raegner purchased R&J Liquors from the store’s longtime previous owners, Bob and JoAnn Anderson, late last year. Since purchasing R&J Liquors Raegner, who worked as a liquor wholesaler in Grand County for close to two decades, has been tackling some upgrades. Raegner was proud to tout the recent increase in both wine and craft beers, noting that he has added over 100 new wines and close to 100 new craft beers to the store’s inventory in the past year.

Store regulars, and anyone who has driven through downtown Granby lately, will notice the façade upgrade R&J has recently acquired. The shop has undergone exterior paintwork thanks to local artist Dawn Murphy. The exterior of the shop now sports a colorful motif featuring wine glasses and warm landscapes that are hard to miss.

Raegner said he felt very lucky to have won the Best Liquor Store honor from the readers of Sky-Hi News.
