14-year-old Monte Vista teen charged as adult in parents’ slaying
DEL NORTE, Colo. (AP) – A 14-year-old Monte Vista boy has been charged as an adult in the murder of his mother and stepfather.
John Michael Caudle was charged in district court Tuesday with two counts of first-degree murder. Other charges include two counts of violent crime using a deadly weapon.
Thirty-eight-year-old Tracy Rinebarger and his wife, 34-year-old Joanne Rinebarger, were found dead in their home by a relative Oct. 27. Caudle, suspected in the slaying, and a family truck were missing.
Caudle was later arrested by Park County sheriff’s deputies. He is being held in a youth detention center until it is decided whether he should be transferred to a regular jail.
A preliminary hearing is set for Feb. 10.
