15-year-old dies in fall at Crooked Creek Ranch

A 15-year-old male from Denver died in Grand County over the weekend after falling to his death in the theater at Crooked Creek Ranch.

The teenager was a Denver native who was staying at Crooked Creek Ranch during a youth trip to the area.

Local authorities received an emergency call at approximately 3:30 a.m. Saturday morning, Aug. 8. According to officials from the Grand County Sheriff’s Office (GCSO), early Saturday morning the deceased and a small group of other youths were climbing in the catwalk area of the theater at Crook Creek Ranch. A statement released by the Sheriff’s Office indicates the youths were supposed to be in their rooms sleeping at the time of the incident.

While climbing through the structures above the stage the 15-year-old fell through a hole approximately 13.5 feet onto the stage below. He was pronounced dead at about 4:30 a.m. Saturday morning. An autopsy was conducted on the young man Monday. According to officials from the GCSO his offical cause of death was listed as a broken neck.
