15th Annual Mountain Messiah set for Dec. 11 at Snow Mountain Ranch
The 15th Annual Mountain Messiah will be held on Sunday, Dec. 11 at the YMCA of the Rockies Snow Mountain Ranch Chapel. The pre-show event will start at 6:30 p.m. and the concert will start at 7 p.m. The Mountain Messiah is a community sing-a-long concert. It is the brainchild of local musician and advocate of the arts Joan Shaw. Although many communities have Messiah Sings, this one has a unique claim at 8,850 feet, the highest sung rendition of G. F. Handel’s Messiah. Children are welcome to attend and hear this time-honored music sung with great energy and joy.
This event is possible because of a pool of local talented vocalists, pianists, and instrumentalists. The concert will feature the well-known Hallelujah Chorus as well as various other choruses, solos and instrumental numbers. The pre-show is a traditional favorite. Local piano students of LaVon Cooper will be performing as guests enter the chapel.
There are no rehearsals. All are invited to come and sing or just to listen. Guests are encouraged to bring their Messiah score, or the Fraser and Granby libraries have musical scores available until Dec. 10. The scores will then be on-hand at the Messiah sing-a-long.
There is an Afterglow party following the event with more musical merriment. Everyone is welcome to bring and share some holiday cookies.
