2 charged after pit bull attack in Cortez

CORTEZ, Colo. (AP) – A pit bull owner and another person face criminal charges after the dog mauled an 11-year-old girl last month.
The girl was walking to a friend’s home Jan. 3 when the dog attacked her, dragging her across the street. She received serious leg injuries before a man living nearby could remove the dog, which was then put to sleep.
The girl’s lower extremities got “chewed up pretty good,” said her father, Darren Davis.
Carl Anderson, owner of the pit bull, and Holly Northern, who was allegedly in charge of the animal at the time of the mauling, face misdemeanor charges of owning a dangerous animal causing bodily injury.
